Grunge Yellow

Top - ZARA, "Skort" - vintage (similar here, here and here), Shoes - ASOS, Choker - ASOS, Lipstick - 'Taupe' MAC
Location: Near Estacio de Franca, Barcelona

When we think of typical grunge outfit, it certainly does not consist of a pleats, flatform espadrilles or the colour yellow. However, these are all massive trends this season and as the nineties revival is still rocking out, I thought I would try to make yellow grunge.

I think this outfit really works and that is thanks to the yellow thread running through the tartan, which really brings the look together. This is also the reason that I first thought to pair this super cute yellow tee with pleated detailing from Zara with my beloved grunge-meets-sixties A-line "skort". The dark green sections and tartan pattern of the skort bring the classic grunge elements to the outfit and contrast perfecting with the pop of yellow while adding that extra edge that a simple black skirt just would not quite have done.

I have to admit that I almost threw on my trusty DMs to make sure that the outfit was "grunge enough" but today I am breaking the rules and wearing my super summery yellow (again) espadrilles. Besides, the nineties black choker and dark nude lip certainly make up for the girly shoe choice.

What do you think of grunge yellow? Do you like the espadrilles or would you have chosen Dr Martens?

Youtube: Monthly Vlog - May in Barcelona

Hello huns! I apologise that I have been a bit absent this week - I have been feeling a bit demotivated and overwhelmed by life right now but I'm getting back into the swing of things!

During May I documented what I got up to in Barcelona - some mundane things, some exploring the city and some general chatting to the camera. I would love to know what you think - is the video too long? If so, then would you prefer fortnightly vlogs? Would you like to see less chatting and more stuff out in the city? Or perhaps you love it how it is! I'm new to this life vlogging so I'm open to your comments!

Happy Sunday and Happy Bank Holiday Weekend to you UK readers!

The Rules Of Double Denim

Jeans - & OTHER STORIES, Denim shirt - vintage (similar via ASOS or NEW LOOK), Shoes - CONVERSE, Sunglasses - RAY BAN
Location: Poble Nou, Barcelona

I have long been a fan of double denim. I think that it can look really cool if you wear it right, making sure that the two tones of denim compliment each other – otherwise you risk looking like an unstylish French man from the late noughties. Of course double blue denim is always harder to get right so if you don’t feel like taking the risk, take two contrasting colours and rock double denim in disguise.

The simplest way of achieving this is by choosing a black or white pair of jeans and styling it with a blue denim shirt or jacket. Today I am going for full on spring double denim in my gorgeous cream coloured jeans and a sleeveless vintage denim shirt, tied at the waist. The look is completely brought together by the fact that both pieces have embroidery detailing, which, as I have mentioned before, is massive this season. Finished off with my trusty Ray Bans and Converse, I am ready for a sunny Saturday afternoon strolling around the quieter streets of Poble Nou in Barcelona.

What are your tips for rocking double denim this season?

Dress - ZARA, Leather jacket - ASOS (old - similar HERE), Boots - ASOS, Bag - vintage (similar HERE), Hat - vintage (similar HERE)
Location: Barceloneta, Barcelona

I have been racking my brains for something interesting to say about this outfit; however, I think that because this outfit came so naturally to me, without requiring much thought, perhaps that it why I have little to say.

I picked up this super cute striped dress in Zara recently when on search of monochrome pieces for a YouTube lookbook that I am working on. I was instantly drawn to it, of course because of the stripes but also because of its sixties style mini length and collar detailing. Naturally, I paired it with my black Chelsea boots, fun tassel socks and a baker boy cap.

Also have you noticed that I am wearing a bag in these photos?! What a rarity I know! Being a shoe person, I hardly ever buy bags but I thought this vintage cross body one went perfectly with this leather laden sixties look.

What outfits just come naturally to you?

10 Reasons to Move to Canada Right Now

10 reasons to move to Canada
Welcome to the second instalment of my lists that I hope will help me organise my thoughts and decide where to move to next. Back in March 2015, Lewis and I applied for working holiday visas for Canada but were put about 2,000th on the waiting list, so after not hearing anything by September last year, we decided to move here to Barcelona. You’ll never guess what. Two weeks after we arrived in Barcelona we got to the top of the waiting list and so we proceeded to sort out our paperwork for the visa. At the time we were extremely hyped but that has since died down seeing as we stayed in Barcelona. If we go to Canada, it would most likely be to Montreal so with that in mind, I give you my ten reasons to move to Canada right now.

1. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
2. I could have a stopover in Iceland on the way to Montreal, ticking off number one on my TRAVEL BUCKETLIST 2016.
3. I could casually take weekend trips the US of A – I’m imagining regular weekends down to NYC and Boston…
4. I could experience living in a completely different climate – come winter, bring on wool lined Dr Martens and the sassiest of faux fur coats.
5. I could speak French again on a daily basis – although hoping to not pick up a quebecois accent (no offence guys!).
6. I could experience a different culture – a mix of North American and Europe cultures sounds pretty special!
7. I could (hopefully) get a decent job because I speak the languages.
8. Rumour has it that Canadians are some of the friendliest people on Earth.
9. Canada actually welcomes immigrants rather than finding any possible way to close its borders.
10. England, Europe and America seem on a path to being pretty fucked so why not try a country that has an outstanding reputation for quality of life?

Embroidered White Jeans

Jeans - & OTHER STORIES, Top - ZARA, Shoes - CONVERSE, Sunglasses - RAY BAN
Location: Poble Nou, Barcelona

I have been on a mission to find a pair of white/cream jeans ever since last spring. We all know how hard it can be to find a pair of blue or black jeans that fit and look good, so just imagine the trauma that comes with white jeans shopping. I had pretty much given up hope until I came across this gorgeous pair of embroidered jeans. I first saw them in black and thought 'these are nice', but when I came across them in cream, I almost died and went to jean heaven.

Just looking at them, I knew instantly that they would look perfect with my new flared sleeve top from Zara, which I have been struggling to style up, and with Converse, thanks to their cropped length. Even though outfits thought up in one's head do not always work out in real life (this is one of the most stressful things I find about blogging), luckily I think I was bang on the money with this one.

Embroidery is a big trend for spring/summer 2016, as are big and flared sleeves, and you can easily inject these into an outfit, whatever your style. Of course embroidery and flares are typically boho but in today's outfit, these details just add that something special to what is not a boho look at all, but a minimalist look. I think these two pieces work especially well together because the neckline and the top of the jeans are kept plain while the detailing is concentrated to the sleeve/hem area.

Are you adding a bit of boho fun to your wardrobe this season? And how?

YouTube: Bristol Vlog

Hello and Happy Sunday!

Today's vlog has been a long time coming. Back in February I went back to my hometown of Bristol for about a week and I documented what I did! However, fashion weeks and other travelling seemed to take precedence but now it's Bristol's turn and I am super excited to spread the Bristol love with you all.

This was actually the first vlog I shot when I first got my Olympus Pen camera and it was also my first go at travel/life vlogging! I hope you enjoy it and that it inspires you to visit the beautiful city of Bristol!

Styling Blue Jeans And A White T-shirt

Jeans - (vintage) LEVIS, T-shirt - secondhand, Shoes - ASOS
Location: El Born, Barcelona

Some days all we want to do is throw on the nearest tee and pair of jeans and be done with it. Yep, we all have lazy days but it is easy to pull off this simple combination if you have one stand out piece in your outfit. That could be a t-shirt with a bold print; a pair of jeans with detailing such as embroidery or frayed edges; or some sassy, sassy shoes. Accessories are also a great way to spice up a basic outfit, like some chunky, colourful sunglasses or a statement bag.

For me, there is nothing more effortless than a t-shirt and jeans combo and today I wearing the most basic of basics – blue jeans and a white t-shirt. Forgetting the gorgeous shoes for a minute, these particular two items go so well together because they are both classic. The jeans are super high-waisted, straight leg Levi’s and the t-shirt is no nonsense, simple and hangs loose perfectly out of the jeans.

Following the aforementioned rules, I have opted for a statement shoe to jazz up this casual look. I will warn you now that these amazing yellow flatform espadrilles will be featuring A LOT on the blog over the summer months because, as seen here, they add that something special to any outfit! All I need now is an oversized straw beach bag and I’d be saying, Jane Birkin eat your heart out.
