Spring Pastels In Paris

So I know what you are thinking - 'pastels in Spring Izzie? That's really groundbreaking…' Well all I can say in my defence is that I like pastels ok? Furthermore, due to the fact that the pastel pieces in question are a mighty thick faux fur coat and a cute pink beret, I would say that this is actually more of a pre-Spring look; a transitional look from the darks hues of winter to the upcoming brights of summer.

This blue fur is becoming quite the regular on this blog. I have already styled it up smartly with BLOCK HEEL PUMPS and with a DENIM SHIRT DRESS but here I am wearing it done up to let its A-line shape and pastel colour do the talking. I think its turquoise blue and the baby pink of my new favourite beret go perfectly together, especially when paired with some simple black culottes and leather boots.

What colours and patterns are you channelling in this pre-Spring transitional period?

Paris Fashion Week AW16 Vlog

Bonjour! My Paris Fashion Week AW16 Vlog is finally live on my YOUTUBE channel! I had such a great time filming this content (with a little help from my darling ANNA) at Paris Fashion Week, shooting outfits with GISELE and generally hanging out with some awesome friends.

I was lucky enough to see two amazing but completely different shows at Paris Fashion Week. Firstly I saw Manish Arora presenting at the earthy and vintage venue, Le Comptoir General. His AW16 collection features lots of customised denim, pops of coloured patchwork and serious prairie trend vibes. Then I saw the super sleek Pascal Millet show, which is a collection mainly made of black and navy colours but adding the oomph with white polka dots, sequins and sparkles. Anyway, I am spoiling it for you - go and have a look for yourself!

Bonjour!

So Paris Fashion Week – and fashion month – has just finished and what a season it has been! For one of my days in Paris, I pulled out the clichés and wore my new pink beret and a marinière. I say cliché, but in fact the striped sailor top is an important part of French history. Originally the official undergarment of the French Navy, the striped sailor jersey gradually infiltrated the fashion world thanks to Gabrielle Chanel adopting this workwear garment paired with loose trousers as her resort-wear look. So thanks Chanel babes because I do love myself some stripes.

I am feeling pretttttty smug about this backdrop. There are not many people who have friends whose bedroom window opens onto the beautiful Parisian rooftops with an uninterrupted view of the Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides. So I had to take full advantage whilst staying with the gorgeous Bella at the weekend and quickly capture my outfit full of clichés.

Bonjour! I have just returned from an amazing four days in Paris filled with friends, food and, of course, fashion. For Paris Fashion Week Day One, I chose to show off the latest addition to my button down and suede collection and this little number could not be more perfect if it tried. It's suede - pardon me, multicoloured suede - it's patchwork, it's tartan and if that was not enough, it is also a skort. Oh I do love a good skort because you have the silhouette of a cute miniskirt at the front with the comfort and security of shorts at the back (I am forever pulling down miniskirts as I walk - paranoid bum-flasher alert!).

When putting together this look, I found myself rather inspired by Le Kilt's AW16 collection, over which I have been drooling ever since it was shown last month at London Fashion Week. I paired my gorge grungy skort with my new black wrap body from Zara - I have a feeling I am going to have a thing for bodies this season - and a classic black cocoon coat. I love accessorising plunging necklines with a statement choker and with a nod to St Trinian's alternative school girl look; I topped off the look with a beret - when in Paris and all!

I have lots of other outfits that I shot while I was in Paris that I can’t wait to share with you as well as a Paris Fashion Week Vlog so stay tuned!

Bonjour!

Paris Fashion Week: Haute Couture SS16 Faves

Bonjour! Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture has literally just finished and I have been following the  reveal of each new SS16 collection re-li-gious-ly. So without further ado, let's have a look at my favourite collections and chat about my reflections for the upcoming season.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture SS16 Alberta Ferretti
ALBERTA FERRETTI
‘Seductively gorgeous’ is the best way of describing Alberta Ferretti’s Haute Couture collection and I fell instantly in love with it. Venetian legend Marchesa Luisa Casati was the inspiration for this powerful collection that combines strong structures, hourglass shapes and the softness of sheer and lace. The rich colours and varied textures give the collection a baroque feel while the animal prints and curling snake accessories add an element of danger. I particularly love the 1920s-esque beaded tassels on some of the dresses and the super flapper girl hair style.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture SS16 Elie Saab
ELIE SAAB
Elie Saab’s Haute Couture collection is a fairytale dream, with silhouettes that would not look out of place in a high end version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It is dead romantic – mega keyword for SS16 - with lots of pretty lace, mesh and jewels. The colours are mainly neutrals – burnt nudes, silver and white – but with the occasional pop of gorgeous blue hues. I have some serious envy for those amazing silver military boots with jewels entwined in the laces – gimme!

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture SS16 Valentino
VALENTINO
Valentino’s SS16 Haute Couture collection has to be my favourite collection of the season so far – it is just quite simply breathtaking. The combination of rich colours like deep reds and mossy greens with pale creams and gold is not something that we would normally associate with Spring/Summer but it works so well. Especially because the pieces themselves are lovely, long flowing dresses with Grecian-style plunging necklines worn by barefoot models – boho yet sexy.  What I absolutely LOVE is the velvet. It’s pleated, it’s embossed, it’s patterned and it comes in the form of full length dresses, cute jackets and decorations.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture SS16 Christian Dior
DIOR
Operating without a Creative Director has certainly not affected the beauty of what the young Dior design team has created for this season’s Haute Couture collection. The show opened with straight necklines and lots of bare shoulders, which is going to be a huge trend this SS16 and I am a massive fan. There are also lots of interesting layers combining different colours and clashing prints to create quite unique looks. This season, designers are showing us that embellishments and sparkle are certainly not just for Christmas and Dior are leading the revolution.

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture SS16 Dice Kayek
DICE KAYEK
And finally, for me, Dice Kayek’s Haute Couture collection sums up perfectly the key trends that you need to know about for SS16. It is all about shapes - think A-line silhouettes, enormous bishop sleeves and a hella lot of pleats and ruffles.

So those were my favourite Haute Couture collection from Paris Fashion Week - which were yours?

Photography by ALICE LEMARIN

Hello my lovelies,

You may recognise today's outfit from posts such as PARIS FASHION WEEK: MINIMAL WITH MOTEL ROCKS from a couple of weeks ago - so I am guilty as charged for re-using a look but with good reason. The previous post focuses on the outfit but here I want to talk about the photography talent that is ALICE LEMARIN. She likes to play with LIGHT AND SHADOW to create, I guess what you would call, "natural special effects", such as patterns cast across her subject or using sunlight to draw attention to a certain aspect. So the outfit is not important. Here I want you to take in each photograph as a whole, as a piece of art, in which I am just part of the composition. I think the rigid lines of the staircase and the softness of the leaves behind are a really good contrast that make some interesting shapes in the photographs. And, on a self-absorbed side note - how bloody chiseled do my cheekbones look?!

Coucou!

Paris Fashion Week SS16 AF Vandevorst

Set in the beautiful and classically Parisian building of the Faculty of Medicine, the AF Vandevorst SS16 catwalk show took Paris Fashion Week by storm - quite literally on motor bikes - last Thursday and it was a pleasure to watch the spectacle unfold. After a lot of motorbike revving out in the magnificent adjoining courtyard, the models arrived one by one off the back of the bikes donning pieces inspired by both the East and the West, the military and, of course, badass rock spirit.

The rebel influence is immediately obvious, with some of the models wearing their motorbike helmets on the runway and big black leather boots dominating the footwear. Talking of dominating, a few of the looks are quite sadomasochistic with fishnet fabric masks covering the models' heads. The Eastern influences can be as subtle as a mandarin collar or a simple material belt tied at the waist but it is also clear how traditional dress such as kimonos and saris have be explored; resulting in beautiful layering of materials and fusion with military-style structured jackets.

The colour palate is relatively subdued, apart from the one multi-coloured shirt-dress and the odd flashes of white and burgundy. This allows the beautiful embellishments and Eastern-style silver embossing and embroidery to really stand out. It is a fantastic collection with a show production that definitely put AF Vandevorst on the map. The girls exited the catwalk to the courtyard from which they had come and the whole audience followed to get a glance of models and the collection before they were dramatically whisked away on the backs of motorbikes.

I have always wanted a matching suit so this super sixties/seventies skirt and blazer combo from MOTEL ROCKS* seemed like the perfect way to kick off Paris Fashion Week. The pattern is just beautiful, original and very vintage-inspired, which is probably why I was so drawn to it in the first place. It's corduroy too, which is a must-have material for your wardrobe this season. In keeping with the sixties/seventies style, I wore a simple black high neck top underneath and modernised the look a bit with some Docs.

Let's talk about sizing for a minute. I would advise sizing up for the blazer and maybe even sizing down for the skirt, but that's just me (hopefully I do not have an extremely unusual body shape and that this advice helps you guys).

These photos were taken by super talent French blogger GISELE with whom I have collaborated before on her CHALLENGE 150 post. I loved her photos for our previous shoot so I just had to ask her to take some outfit photos for me whilst I was back in Paris for the weekend.
