How To Stay Sassy And Warm This Winter | Part 1

How To Stay Sassy And Warm In Style This Winter
How To Stay Sassy And Warm In Style This Winter
COAT - VINTAGE | JUMPER - &OTHERSTORIES | JEANS - ASOS (SIMILAR) | TURTLENECK - SECONDHAND | BOOTS - DR MARTENS | HAT - JOHN LEWIS (OLD) | SCARF - TOPSHOP | LIPSTICK - MAC 'DIVA'

As a fashion blogger living through my coldest winter yet, I am still stubbornly refusing to let the subzero temperatures affect my sartorial choices...well, not too much anyway. I have not invested in a unflattering puffer jacket nor will I be donning my feet with ugly snow boots any time soon and guess what? I am surviving. So with this thought constantly on my mind, I thought I would create a little series with tips on how I am staying warm in style this winter in Montreal.

There is no doubt about it that dresses and skirts are out of the question for the next few months - even I am not committed enough to having dangerously numb legs and a draft wooshing up between my thighs - so jeans and wool tailored trousers are my winter uniform, with tights or leggings underneath, of course. These jeans have a rather large knee rip, which, if left unattended, would allow for more wooshing so I added some fishnets tights for a little warmth and an extra detail.

See, today's outfit - even though it is quite simply a jeans and jumper combo - is all about the details. These days I am living in turtlenecks and layering this stripy one underneath my new beloved &Other Stories jumper adds that bit of interest while keeping my neck warm.

Accessories are a great way to spice up any look and during colder months we have even more options, with all the scarves, gloves and hats that are unavoidable in a Canadian winter. I have had this incredible leopard print faux fur bucket-style hat for a few years now and it is the softest and cosiest hat ever. Plus I am hitting two keys winter trends and feeling super sassy while doing so - win win. Finally, if all else fails, a statement lip can bring any winter outfit from boring to striking and it's pretty effortless too. Luckily MAC's Diva shade perfectly matches my cherry red Dr Martens boots, which are currently the only suitable thing I own for foot-deep snow.

Two wrongs make an outfit

Key ss15 trends crochet, 501 levis jeans and suede jacket
How to style yellow crochet
How to style vintage with ss15 trends
Yellow nails nail varnish and yellow crochet crop top ss15 trends
Crochet key ss15 seventies trend
Navy lace vintage boots and 501 levis jeans
How to wear suede, crochet and denim ss15 trends
I'm wearing all vintage.
Location: Le Marais, Paris. Photos by Anna Rundberg.

In principle this outfit should not work. I have never thought that halter neck tops are very flattering, especially on me, and 501 Levis jeans (albeit being currently very popular) will never elongate your legs like a good pair of flares or show off your shape as figure-hugging skinnies do. But somehow, throwing together these retro and sometimes forgotten pieces has created one of my favourite looks this season.

Yellow is not a colour that I normally wear and yet it features twice here. I've found that a darker, more mustardy colour yellow actually doesn't completely clash with my skin whereas pastel yellow is the way forward for nails. I've kind of got a primary colours theme going on here - red lips, yellow crochet, blue jeans and to top it off (or bottom it off in fact), these awesome navy lace boots. It's nice to step out of the black wardrobe from time to time - what colours are you currently loving?

Summer knits

Vintage retro stripy summer jumper

How to style ss15 sixties and seventies trends
Vintage summer jumper stripy bright coloured
Vintage suede skirt and jumper from Kilo Shop / Dr Martens shoes
Location: rue du Roi de Sicile, 75004 Paris

Once again I'm mixing sixties and seventies in one of my current favourite outfits. I finally found THE suede skirt for just 5 euros. That's the thing with thrifting, it takes time and you have to be patient but boy does it pay off.

I'm loving the knitwear trend for SS15. Of course it needs to be light with short sleeves and bright colours, which makes it great for transitional dressing or just 'waiting for the sun to return' outfits. I'm especially drawn to multi-coloured stripy summer jumpers, which are perfect for adding a retro feel to any look and this one is just adorable.

---

Sixties meets seventies layering

Sixties style meets seventies style
Layering sixties and seventies
Zara blouse
How to mix sixties and seventies ss15 trends
Mixing denim, suede and paisley
How to style sixties and seventies ss15 trends
Vintage denim dress / Zara paisley shirt (old) / Vintage suede bomber / Dune Chelsea boots (old)
Location: rue de l'Arsenal, 75004 Paris

After having been teased by summer and the last couple of weeks of glorious weather, the temperatures have dropped and the rain is back, which means one thing fashion wise: layers. I've paired this A-line denim dress over a paisley print high neck shirt for a sixties meets seventies look.

I have been lacking inspiration recently for photo locations so I really liked the idea of clambering over this transport machine thing to take some snaps. Who thought you could tire of Parisian streets? Not really but I have been looking for something a bit different of late.

---

The Best of ASOS: Summer Edit Wishlist

Best of ASOS summer - look one
Best of ASOS summer look two
Best of ASOS summer look three

Too. many. beautiful. things. ASOS are really on top of their game this season, especially when it comes to boho and seventies vibes. I want it all please. My favourite has to be the white crochet playsuit in look two, I don't think I can resist much longer. What is your favourite piece?

---

Mixing decades

Vintage printed jacket / Vintage suede shirt / Topshop crop / ASOS ripped jeans / Dr Martens
Location: Canal Saint Martin, 75010 Paris

I'm really mixing lots of styles and decades here but I love it. This is the way to incorporate some of this season's current trends, such as the banging seventies, without looking like you're off to a Bee Gees tribute gig (although that would be pretty cool...). I've layered this amazing sixties/seventies printed jacket over a super soft vintage seventies suede shirt and a nineties simple white crop. As that is already quite a lot for the eye to handle, I finished off the outfit with my beloved ripped black jeans and my even more beloved Dr Martens shoes to add some nineties grunge. Yes I need new shoes.

---

Checked Shirt Dress

Vintage checked shirt / ASOS leather jacket (old - similar here) / Fishnet tights (similar here) / Dr Martens shoes / Ray Bans sunglasses

Finally it feels like Spring has sprung when I can go out in just this fab flannel checked shirt dress, fishnet tights and a leather jacket. I really like this grungy look and it's super comfy too.

I'm so excited to be off to London tomorrow for the weekend to see my mum, sister and step dad. We're going to do lots of shopping (god I've missed English shoe shops!), eat lots and see Mamma Mia on Saturday night. Can't wait. I'm also looking forward to shooting some outfit posts on some lovely London roads that I love seeing on some of my favourite blogs.

---

PFW: Outfit Two

Vintage lace flares (similar here) / Vintage fringed leather jacket (similar here) / Vintage boots (similar here) / eBay top / MAC 'So Chaud' lipstick

Just a few photos of my second outfit from Paris Fashion Week. I didn't have my assistant, sorry boyfriend, in tow so I had to rely on another unobliging individual to take these. There is quite a lot going on in this look, I will admit, but I really like it. The lace flares were perfect for the hot Sunday temperatures and the leather jacket is just amazing. There is so much fringing everywhere at the moment so I'm glad I grabbed this jacket when I saw it last season.

---

PFW: Outfit One

Motel Rocks black velvet unitard (c/o) / Vintage suede bomber / Adidas Stan Smiths / MAC 'So Chaud' lipstick
Location: Grand Palais, Paris

For Saturday of Paris Fashion Week, I went for a sporty, casual look with my super slinky Motel Rocks black velvet unitard, Adidas Stan Smiths and a vintage suede bomber to add a touch of seventies. It was a great choice for running around the city taking street style snaps, looking for inspiration and checking out some young designers at WOMAN trade show (blog post to come). I was reporting for Motel Rocks this PFW so there will be a guest blog post about my time and many images have already featured on their Instagram under #PFWTAKEOVER. You can get 20% off Motel Rocks when entering izzie_h at the checkout! Stay tuned for more PFW updates during the week!

---
